Sabres sign Thibault, Peters and Ryan

Jocelyn Thibault signed a one-year contract with the Sabres on Thursday, as Buffalo bolstered its backup goaltending depth through free agency. Thibault is a 13-year NHL veteran who spent the past two seasons as a backup in Pittsburgh. He had a 7-8-2 record and 2.83 goals-against average in 22 games with the Penguins last season.

Rangers agree to terms with F Prucha

Forward Petr Prucha agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the New York Rangers, with whom he has scored 52 goals in two seasons. Prucha, a 24-year-old native of the Czech Republic, will earn $1.6 million each of the next two seasons. He became a restricted free agent after posting 22 goals and 18 assists for the Rangers in 79 games last season.

Avalanche re-sign F Svatos for 1 year

Avalanche forward Marek Svatos signed a one-year deal with Colorado on Thursday. Svatos scored 15 goals and had 30 points in 66 games for the Avalanche last season, a year after tying Joe Sakic for the team lead with 32 goals and finishing third among NHL rookies behind Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.

Devils sign Weekes to back up Brodeur

The New Jersey Devils signed Kevin Weekes on Thursday to back up record-setting goaltender Martin Brodeur. Weekes, 32, spent the last two seasons with the New York Rangers, appearing in 46 games and compiling a record of 18-20-5. Weekes is 96-156-38 with 19 shutouts in nine NHL seasons with Florida, Vancouver, the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay, Carolina and the Rangers.

Nashville group makes bid for Predators

A group of Nashville businessmen has submitted a bid to buy the Predators, joining at least two other potential buyers vying for the NHL team. The group, led by David Freeman, chief executive officer of 36 Venture Capital, and Herb Fritch, CEO of HealthSpring Inc., has not said how much it has bid in an attempt to try to keep the team in Nashville.

Jeremy Roenick is thinking about calling it quits after 18 NHL seasons. The Phoenix Coyotes veteran forward had hoped to be dealt to a team in a playoff position, but wasn’t moved before the trade deadline Tuesday. Blake, Hunter lead Islanders to OT win

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP)– The trade deadline passed and Jason Blake was relieved to still be a member of the New York Islanders. He celebrated with a hat trick a few hours later. Blake scored three goals and had an assist, and Trent Hunter’s second goal of the game with 30.7 seconds left in overtime gave the Islanders a 6-5 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.
