Coyotes sign F York to 1-year contract

Forward Mike York signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday. The 29-year-old York split last season with the New York Islanders and Philadelphia, combining for 10 goals and 11 assists. Drafted in the sixth round by the New York Rangers in 1997, he has also played for the Edmonton Oilers.

Stars ink F Fedoruk for 1 year, $875K

The Dallas Stars signed free agent winger Todd Fedoruk to a one-year, $875,000 contract Monday. Fedoruk, an enforcer who has averaged more than a penalty per game in 354 career games, started last season with Stanley Cup champion Anaheim before getting traded to Philadelphia in November. He finished with 120 penalty minutes and 14 points in 58 games.

Canucks sign Bieksa for 3 years, $11.25M

The Vancouver Canucks signed defenseman Kevin Bieksa to a $11.25-million, three-year contract extension Monday, and also added free agent Aaron Miller. Bieksa led all Canucks defensemen with 30 assists and 42 points last season. The extension runs through the 2010-11 campaign. The 26-year-old will make $4.25 million in 2008-09 and $3.5 million in each of the final two seasons.

The Detroit Red Wings agreed to terms on a one-year contract with veteran forward Dallas Drake on Monday. The Red Wings originally selected Drake in the sixth round of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He played two seasons with Detroit before being traded to the Winnipeg Jets in 1994. Last month the 38-year-old was placed on waivers by the St.


Coyotes’ Turris impresses at rookie camp

Unlike many of the players invited to the Phoenix Coyotes’ rookie camp, Kyle Turris isn’t trying to earn a contract. He still wants the Coyotes to know they made the right move when they picked him third overall in last month’s NHL draft. “I want to put in a good first impression,” Turris said after the 90-minute skate Saturday at the team’s practice facility.

Sabres match Oilers’ $50M offer to Vanek

The Sabres matched the Edmonton Oilers' seven-year, $50 million offer to the second-year player Friday, announcing their move at a news conference shortly after Vanek's agent went public with news of the Oilers' offer sheet.

Losing Chris Drury and Daniel Briere to free agency was bad enough. The Buffalo Sabres weren’t going to let high-scoring youngster Thomas Vanek get away at any price. Without hesitation, the Sabres signed Vanek to a seven-year, $50 million contract Friday, matching the offer the player received from the Edmonton Oilers.


Senators name John Paddock coach

John Paddock won’t have to move far when he takes over as coach of the Ottawa Senators. Paddock was promoted to the job of head coach Friday after two seasons as the Senators’ assistant coach, taking over a team that made it to the Stanley Cup finals this spring. The 53-year-old Paddock will be the sixth coach in franchise history.

The New York Islanders finally found free agents willing to sign, inking All-Star forward Bill Guerin to a two-year contract and center Mike Comrie to a one-year deal on a busy Thursday. Guerin, a four-time All-Star, scored 36 goals last season while splitting time with the St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks.
