Pat Summitt files for divorce after 27 years of marriage

Tennessee’s Pat Summitt, the winningest basketball coach in NCAA history, filed for divorce after nearly 27 years of marriage. Irreconcilable differences were cited in the petition filed Wednesday in the Knoxville suburb of Maryville. She and husband R.B Summit will have been married 27 years on Aug. 23.
Rutgers basketball player sues Imus and CBS Radio, alleging defamation of character

Purdue’s Wisdom-Hylton recuperating from surgery on torn ACL

Purdue forward Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton is recuperating from surgery on her left knee and may begin rehabilitation next week. Wisdom-Hylton was injured last month while playing for the USA Basketball Under 21 national team. She underwent surgery last week to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and is expected back on campus when classes start Monday, Purdue spokeswoman Sara White said Tuesday.

Iziane Castro Marques scored 19 points and Lauren Jackson had 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Seattle Storm to an 82-47 rout of the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday. The 47 points were a record low for Los Angeles, which also went down to a franchise-record sixth consecutive defeat. The Sparks shot a season-worst 29.9 percent.
Former Kentucky coach named assistant at Texas

Former Kentucky women’s basketball coach Mickie DeMoss was hired Tuesday as an assistant at Texas. DeMoss had quit abruptly in April, saying she wanted to take a break from the game after 30 years. Her hiring completes coach Gail Goestenkors’ staff. Goestenkors was hired earlier this year to succeed Jody Conradt, who retired in March.

Pam Smith, Wittenberg University’s most successful women’s basketball coach, died after a long bout with cancer, the university said Wednesday. She was 47. Attorney: LSU has paid settlement money

LSU has paid former women’s basketball coach Pokey Chatman the $160,000 owed her as a result of a recent contract settlement following her resignation. Chatman abruptly resigned March 7, shortly before the NCAA tournament, after assistant coach Carla Berry raised allegations of improper conduct with a former player or players.
