Texas Tech bans shirts mocking Vick

Texas Tech has banned the sale of a T-shirt featuring a drawing of a football player dangling Texas A&M’s dog mascot by her leash. The red shirts, with black text reading “VICK ‘EM” on the front in a reference to the Aggies’ slogan “Gig ‘em,” were created by a Tech student who said he has sold roughly 300 of the shirts through his fraternity ahead of Saturday’s game against Texas A&M in Lubbock.

BCA irked by lack of minority coaches

The Black Coaches and Administrators want to change college football’s status quo. So when the BCA released its fourth hiring report card Tuesday, it came with a warning: Add more diversity to the head coaching ranks or risk facing a future civil rights lawsuit. “Whether it’s the (NFL’s) Rooney Rule or the Eddie Robinson Rule or Title VII, I’m not sure,” executive director Floyd Keith said.


Kansas State reports violations to NCAA

Kansas State discovered possible rules violations in its football program and is cooperating with the NCAA in an investigation. Athletic director Tim Weiser said Tuesday the Big 12 school reported the violations to the governing body. He said the probe is focused on a former university employee, three former football players and two current members of the team.

UCLA QB Olson out 3-4 weeks

UCLA quarterback Ben Olson will be sidelined three to four weeks with a partial tear of the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee. Fourth man charged in Memphis murder

A fourth man was charged with murder in the shooting of a football player on the University of Memphis campus during a botched robbery, authorities said. Devin Jefferson, a 20-year-old student at the school, was arrested Monday night on allegations he told three other men the player was carrying a large amount of cash.

Arizona State wins ugly, stays unbeaten

Arizona State looked very beatable last week. Unlike Pac-10 power Southern California, the 14th-ranked Sun Devils found a way to remain unbeaten. ASU’s 23-20 victory at Washington State might have been its ugliest game so far. But it left the Sun Devils (6-0, 3-0 Pac-10) tied for first in the Pac-10 with UCLA.
