Boise St. outlasts Nevada 69-67 in 4OT
October 15, 2007
In a game with 136 total points and nearly 1,300 yards of total offense, it was the defense that made the biggest play. Sooner or later the defense had to make a stop, and Boise State’s Tim Brady did just that on the final play in the fourth overtime period, stuffing a 2-point conversion attempt in a thrilling 69-67 victory over Nevada on Sunday night.
Stoops not satisfied with No. 4 Oklahoma
October 14, 2007
Back-to-back wins over two of the Big 12’s top contenders have helped Oklahoma move back up the national rankings. Coach Bob Stoops wants to see that kind of progress on the field. The Sooners (6-1, 2-1 Big 12) climbed another two spots to No. 4 in The Associated Press Top 25 and were in fifth-place in the BCS standings Sunday after a 41-31 win against Missouri on Saturday.
No. 13 Trojans happy to survive Arizona
October 14, 2007
Victory in hand, a jubilant Mark Sanchez ran off the Los Angeles Coliseum field and leaped Lambeau-style into the stands in celebration. Sanchez was on the winning side in his first start at quarterback for Southern California, so his joy was understandable. For the 13th-ranked Trojans, though, a 20-13 triumph over 21-point underdog Arizona on Saturday seemed to be more survival than victory.
Defense fails Bearcats in upset loss
October 14, 2007
Ben Mauk held his black helmet in the left hand. He slowly made a fist with his passing hand, then relaxed it. Not once did he look up from the floor of the elevator on his way to a postgame interview. This first loss hurt a lot. Mauk couldn’t make 4 more inches on a fourth-down sneak, a near-miss that became the turning point in Louisville’s 28-24 victory Saturday night that ended Cincinnati’s…

The Wolverines were No. 24 in Sunday’s poll after winning their fifth straight game, a 48-21 victory over Purdue on Saturday. Michigan (5-2, 3-0 Big Ten) plays next weekend at Illinois (5-2, 3-1).
Unbeaten BC focuses on ACC title
October 14, 2007
Boston College has had enough of the Meineke Car Care Bowl, the MPC Computers Bowl, the Continental Tire Bowl and Diamond Walnut San Francisco Bowl. After eight straight years of going to second-rate bowl games, the Eagles are focused on winning their first Atlantic Coast Conference title. That would ensure the Eagles (7-0) at worst would be going to the Orange Bowl in Miami and at best playing in…
Buckeyes, S. Florida are 1-2 in BCS
October 14, 2007
Ohio State has been here before, leading the Bowl Championship Series standings. For second-place South Florida, it’s another breakthrough in a season full of them. The Buckeyes and Bulls held the first two spots in the first BCS standings on the season released Sunday. The top two teams in the final standings released Dec.
Madness at Kentucky after upset of LSU
October 14, 2007
A weekend that began with Kentucky’s basketball Madness ended with an even wilder celebration on the football field. A swarm of blue-clad spectators stormed the field after a triple-overtime thriller in which the No. 17 Wildcats did something they hadn’t done since 1964 — knock off the nation’s top-ranked team.
Cal stunned after losing chance at No. 1
October 14, 2007
The California fans started chanting “We’re No. 1! We’re No. 1!” as soon as word of LSU’s triple-overtime loss at Kentucky reached Memorial Stadium. The only problem was that the Golden Bears played nothing like a No. 1 team and blew their chance to move into the top spot in the polls for the first time in 56 years.
Southern Cal has little margin of error
October 9, 2007
Now that Southern California coach Pete Carroll has analyzed over and over what went wrong, he’s ready to move forward. He really doesn’t have much choice following one of the biggest upsets in college football history. “I’m excited about trying to fix this thing. I take a lot of responsibility for it,” Carroll said Tuesday — three days after 41-point underdog Stanford rallied to beat then-No.
